Precision Starts Before the First Shot

At MTE Machining, every barrel is hand chambered with your desired purpose in mind, not rushed through a production line. Hand chambering allows us to control alignment, fit, finish, and consistency in a way mass-produced barrels simply cannot match. The next most impactful thing we do is match and true every surface to each other so lug engagement is exactly the same the entire way around.

The result is a barrel that locks up more consistently, supports the cartridge better, and gives the shooter a higher level of repeatable accuracy.

What Makes Hand Chambering Different?

A rifle barrel does not shoot well just because the blank is high quality. The chamber, throat, crown, bolt fit, extension, breech angle, breech radius and alignment all matter. Not to mention we design nearly every reamer we use as a finished reamer, so it will maximize the accuracy of every round, even the one that did not quite "sound or feel" like they fed right. 

When we hand chamber a barrel, we take the time to indicate the bore, control the chamber cut, and verify the critical areas that affect how the bullet enters the rifling. This a one barrel a day process for us. its about 5-7 hours start to finish, but when we are done. It is done right and will be the most accurate AR barrel possible everytime.

The MTE Chambering Process

1. Bore Indication

We do not simply hold the barrel by the outside diameter and assume everything is straight. We indicate from the bore because that is what the bullet actually travels through.

2. Controlled Chamber Cutting

The chamber is cut carefully to reduce runout and improve alignment between the cartridge, chamber, throat, and bore.

3. Throat and Freebore Attention

The transition from chamber to rifling matters. A clean, consistent throat helps the bullet begin its travel the same way each shot.

4. Crown and Final Inspection

The muzzle crown is finished with the same level of care because the bullet’s exit from the barrel matters just as much as its start.

5. Test-Fired Performance

We believe accuracy should be proven, not assumed.


Why It Matters Downrange

Small inconsistencies at the chamber can become big differences at distance, and on the loading bench. When the cartridge is better supported and the bullet enters the bore more consistently, the rifle has a better chance of producing tight, repeatable groups.

That is why MTE focuses on the full system, not just the barrel blank.


Gas System Length and Port Sizes

You may notice on our barrel pages there isnt a place to select gas system lengths. That is becuase we read the internet to and know that if you listen to every random good idea fairy online you will have the most random answers for gas system legths and port sizes anyone could imagine. In stead we know through thousands of rounds of testing what each caliber requeires per barrel length and projectile/powder combonations.

Some of this stmes from me talking to individual customers and taking notes as we talk and when I get to your barrel I set up the correct gas system for your intended purpose. These are not steps you as a n end user should care about, we want you to just go shoot and very much enjoy your day at the range while watching eveyrone around you ride there rifle like it is a bronco.
