Frequently Asked Questions
What Brass prep do you recommend?
Our recommendation for new brass is the same as once fired brass in gas guns. This is directly related to neck tension. Most brass ranges from .0015"-.008" in neck tension. We strive to keep .003"-.0035" in neck interference / tension. So given the disparity between brass production runs from the variety of manufacturers we recommend the below process for not matter the brass manufacturer.
1. De prime (Once Fired)
2. WET TUMBLE with Southern Shine SS media and Blue Dawn Dish soap for 20-25 minutes
3. Anneal (with an AMP)
4. Lube with Alpha Case lube (immediately ready for use) or Hornady One Shot (let sit for 10 minutes)
5. Resize without the expander ball on the stem. Use a bushing that is .004-.005" undersized so it can be mandrel'd up to the .003-.0035" neck tension sweet spot for a gasser.
6. Use an independent Neck mandrel Mandrel, not one included in the resizing die. In a bolt gun the mandrel in the perfectly aligned body is preferred, but with the unlocking variances gas guns present, the case bases are not perfectly concentric with the neck as its being resized. This results in inconsistencies in those cases neck inner diameters. Separating these to functions (resizing the base and uniforming the ID of the neck) eliminates that.
6. Trim, Chamfer and Debur (We use a Henderson Trimmer with a reduced neck guide mandrel)
7. Dry tumble
8. Mandrel the neck again
9. Prime
10. Powder Charge
11. Seat
12. SHOOT & REPEAT!!
