The MTE No Shift Upper is available separately for shooters who want to improve the structural foundation of a rifle they already own. It brings key features of our No Shift design to the barrel, handguard, and upper receiver while allowing you to use a compatible lower.

Pressure from a bipod, barricade, tripod, or support bag does more than hold up a rifle. As that pressure changes, it loads and unloads the handguard and its connection to the upper. Small amounts of stretching, compression, or deflection in that structure can change the barrel’s position and shift point of impact.

We designed the No Shift Upper to better control those loads.

Built around the barrel and handguard connection

• A substantial barrel attachment. A thick steel barrel nut engages the 7075-T6 receiver through a 1.25″-7 Class 3 thread. Compared with 16 or 24 TPI threads at the same diameter, the coarser 7 TPI profile has deeper threads and leaves more aluminum between adjacent threads. We selected this geometry as part of a substantial steel-to-aluminum connection for the loads placed on the barrel and handguard.
• A reinforced trunnion. The trunnion transitions into the upper in a way designed to resist stretching and compression as handguard pressure changes. It also provides a solid lockup for the handguard.
• Increased upper wall thickness and geometry. Additional material, especially along the ridge beneath the Picatinny rail, helps the upper resist elongation when the handguard is loaded without upward support from a bipod.
• A closely sized barrel extension bore. The receiver bore is specified at 0.998″. The insertion fit depends on the measured diameter of the individual barrel extension which ranges from .9985"  to .9998". This will result in anything from a thermal fit of a barrel to a harder hand press insertion of the barrel o the extension. Most barrels will require heating (275*Faherieiet) of the receiver to fit the barrel into it as that what we want to see so the barrels and uppers don't need to be bedded anylonger. 
• Improved Bolt Carrier Raceways for increased centering consistency and precise, perpendicular bolt alignment to the bore. The carrier maintains the bolt’s centered position without tilt or excess play, promoting more consistent ignition and more uniform bolt-lug engagement. This improved alignment also helps distribute load more evenly across the bolt lugs, potentially contributing to increased lug longevity and more consistent lockup against the chamber.

Handguard compatibility

The No Shift Upper is designed to work with compatible SOA, Aero, MTE, and similar handguard attachment systems. Handguard fit depends on the specific attachment design and hardware, so compatibility should be confirmed for the handguard you intend to use.

What changes when you use your existing lower?

The No Shift Upper fits compatible mil-spec AR lowers, but upper-to-lower fit varies from rifle to rifle. A lower that already fits the upper tightly may help keep that connection more consistent. We cannot control how much movement an existing lower allows under support loads or recoil.

The complete No Shift Frame Set adds our matched lower, extended mating surfaces, and three engagement points on each side. Those features are designed to control upper-to-lower movement in addition to the movement addressed by the upper’s barrel and handguard structure.

The upper alone gives your existing rifle the No Shift approach to the barrel, handguard, and receiver. Pairing it with the No Shift Lower adds the controlled upper-to-lower engagement of the complete frame set.
